Public Facilities

Cultural Quarter

Centros Miller have made much mileage over the cultural quarter aspects of their development plan but the truth is that it adds nothing significant which is not already there and the financial requirements they imposed mean that we will almost certainly see a loss of existing cultural facilities. We understand that the dance studio is slated for demolition and will not be relocated on the site. Cultural additions to the site will likely be exclusively in the way of bars, cafes and restaurants.

Amenities for Youth

Centros Miller have made no provision for any youth facilities in their new development and once again local youth is being left out of the equation. This would have been a good opportunity for councillors to contribute positively to a problem which has blighted other towns. A youth centre could give some disenfranchised young people an opportunity to do something other than hang around on the streets.

Theatres & Musician's Co-op

The theatres and musicians co-op will need to stump up very large sums of cash to take advantage of the opportunities Centros has offered them. If the musicians co-op cannot obtain this additional financial backing it looks more than likely that it will not survive.
