Consultation FAQ

Q - Why is consultation an essential part of any development of CCN?

A - Because the LCC Canal Corridor North Dev Brief identifies as a Key Objective (2.7, page 4) the need for “Extensive public involvement in the development of the proposals”. Furthermore, in relation to Social Inclusion (4.14, page 11), the Development Brief states that “the Council intends to progress the development of the area in a way which maximizes the involvement of local people…this could mean involving local residents in the nature and detailed design of the proposed involvements”.

In addition, the LCC Consultation Strategy (March 2006), “recognizes and welcomes the fundamental importance of consulting effectively with local people” to ensure that “there is increased public participation in the decision making process”

Real consultation is about including local people in decision-making; being open, transparent and helpful, and listening to and taking account of what people want.
