LIVE CROSS-PARTY DEBATE OVER CANAL CORRIDOR PLANS ANNOUNCED
It's Our City are hosting a live panel debate over the planned development of the Canal Corridor North site in Lancaster by Centros Miller. The debate, entitled 'Centros Miller Development: Good or Bad?' will take place at the Gregson Community Centre on Tuesday 17th April at 7.30pm. The panel will consist of Labour group leader Ian Barker, Green group leader Chris Coates, Liberal Democrat group leader Stuart Langhorn and Conservative group leader Roger Mace, and will also include a representative of It's Our City. The chair will be Alan Whitaker from Lancaster University.
Each panellist will be given ten minutes to outline their opinion on the plans for the Canal Corridor North. There will then be an open question and answer session. Finally, each panellist will be given five minutes to sum up their position.
Andy Marsh of It's Our City says 'Centros Miller's plans for the Canal Corridor North are hugely controversial, and will be a major local election issue for Lancaster. We have organised this event so that local people can get a chance to find out what the local political parties think about these plans, prior to the election on 3rd May'.
Emilie Secker adds 'Even though Centros Miller are about to put in a planning application, significant questions remain unanswered, especially regarding the impact of this scheme on traffic and the existing city centre in Lancaster. Furthermore, despite massive opposition from local people, some councillors seem determined to support this scheme. This event is an opportunity for local people to tell their councillors exactly what they think about Centros Miller's plans'.
This event is open to all members of the public and the Press.
