More Canal Corridor Secrets!

It's Our City is dismayed to discover that the majority of City Councillors are not allowed to see the Development Agreement signed last July which provides details of the deal between developer Centros Miller and Lancaster City Council regarding plans for the Canal Corridor North site in Lancaster.

At the full council meeting on 18th April Tim Hamilton-Cox of It's Our City asked whether all councillors had seen a copy of the Development Agreement. The response, after some confusion, was that councillors had not seen it. Furthermore, It's Our City have learnt that councillors are only allowed to view this document on a 'need-to-know' basis.

Tim Hamilton-Cox said 'I was already frustrated that local people are prevented from finding out exactly what deal has been made for the future of Lancaster, under the cloak of commercial confidentiality. To find out that most of our elected representatives are not allowed to know what's going either on beggars belief'.

Emilie Secker adds 'This is absolutely typical of the whole so-called consultation process regarding this development. Yet again we see a small number of Councillors and officers who believe that they know best taking decisions that will fundamentally affect the future of Lancaster without listening to what local people have to say. We urge people to tell the council what they think on 3rd May by voting against this development'.
