Local Election Result

The return of 3 Green councillors in the formerly Labour-dominated Bulk walk indicates that Lancastrians used the local elections as a referendum on the Centros Miller Canal Corridor North development. The Greens were the only party in Lancaster that categorically opposed the Centros Miller development. This is the opinion poll that counts, not Centros Miller's discredited telephone poll!

Given that unquestioning support for Centros Miller's plans was an electoral disaster for the Labour group, we hope that all current councillors will consider their positions carefully, starting by developing alternative plans for the site via real consultation with local people.

However the electoral result will only invigorate the It's Our City campaign to defeat the 19 planning applications that Centros Miller are now starting to submit. Let's hope our new council makes a new start for the Canal Corridor North!
