Prescott, Casinos and Planning is a revealing UK Indymedia article which tells the story of how John Prescott's Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (now the Dept of Communities & Local Government) overruled Greenwich Council planning committee's alternative development plans for the area which would have saved listed buildings in a conservation area. Instead, the ODPM supported Centros Miller's plans to foist another unwanted and unneeded retail development on the area.

Former councillor Barker's protestations that Lancaster Council planning committee can always reject the Centros plans, are meaningless if the New Labour government's ties to Centros mean that Centros Miller can appeal and rely on their friends in Government to overrule our Council.
