Live Radio Interview 10 July 06
Emilie Secker of 'Its Our City' was interviewed by Tony Livesey on the BBC Radio Lancashire Breakfast Show. Issues covered included the lack of proper consultation, traffic, the size and scale of the development and its effect on the existing City Centre and Morecambe. Also present was Councillor Ian Barker, the leader of Lancaster Council who responded with the usual stock answer to the traffic issue which Centros Miller and Council Officers have been giving. Namely that it is too early to deal with it.
Readers who heard traffic expert Prof John Whitelegg speaking at the public meeting held by Its Our City at Lancaster Town Hall on July 10th will know that this is simply not true. Councillor Barker said that the agreement with Centros Miller due to be signed on July 25th is only a financial planning delivery agreement. We believe the traffic issue should be resolved before any such agreement is signed and we still do not know the potential cost to council tax payers should the development not go ahead due to the traffic issue proving unsolveable as Prof Whitelgg suggested at the meeting.
