I want to register my objection to the Centros development. I agree with most of the objections made by others, and I won't reiterate them myself. However I don't like one particular alternative: the skateboard park and youth club. There are other places for these amenitites - for example on school playing fields. If that opinion of mine is generalised, what attraction is there for potential visitors? No one is going to travel miles to Lancaster to sit by a skateboard park. That brings up the question: what is any development for? I get the impression that there's agreement that the town should be made more attractive to visitors. If you look at our town, the town centre, its attraction is its Georgian and Victorian architecture, still just visible above chain store plastic signs. Lancaster has character.
My own opinion is that that character should be extended to any new development from Stonewell onwards. I would like to see stone-fronted terraced houses and small shops. The thought of another development like the PC World area is appalling. I would like to see any new development as frankly an extension of that character that the old town has.
