(Commenting on a proposal which wasn't fully explored at the Gregson meeting - She is absolutely right. We will NOT be lobbying County Council to stop the road closures of Alfred Street/Edward Street. Ed )

Then proposal was 'We will lobby the County Council to stop the road closures of Alfred Street/Edward Street. Perhaps we can get them on our side, if we show them that congestion and rat running will be made even worse in the City due to these road closures'

I am shocked by this comment for action - I think the traffic needs sortng out in Lancaster with this being one of the key areas. It can be impossible to cross this road sometimes and the elders from Leonardsgate Court have huge difficulty on a daily basis with road users (and children and families alike).

The traffic pollution is extremely bad - this would be made worse with the Centros development and the allocation of more traffic in this area. I agree that roads such as Borrowdale/Derwent potentially become rat runs with the development but why are we suggesting to dump this on Alfred Street? I empathise with the residents of these areas -many of which were at the public meeting raising concerns about the traffic and their own houses/prices - valid points but why are Alfred street residents and beyond being dumped on? Potentially we encourage the council to keep open these roads and dump the traffic on us without a fuss - as if the council are going to turn this down?

One of the reasons for closing the roads was to soften local residents to the development by offering a traffic free area for those living on top of the proposed development. As far as I can see the council will be celebrating at this offer and there will a celebration from the residents of Borrowdale and beyond. Alfred street and around will then have a hideous development on their doorstep coupled with a huge traffic problem.

Surely this isn't right?
